Kill The Freaks
Uniqueness is a disease to be crushed by society.
For reasons I can’t even begin to explain here, I dropped out of college in 2004, and managed to return this semester, hopefully for the last time. In some ways it might be a waste of time (and money – lots of money), since I have long since decided not to waste any more of my life working in Advertising. Nonetheless, a college degree can’t really hurt, so here I am (literally here, I’m writing this in class).
A lot has changed since I left (mostly in myself, since people are always people and young people are always idiots, and this place is full of young idiots). One thing that has not changed at all is peer pressure.
I don’t mean for me; I have no peers now. I’m an old, moustachioed, pink-wayfarer-wearing freak, so I can be happy and free. I mean for the others, specifically, the people I see stumbling blindly around campus. More specifically, the future dentists and lawyers.
The future dentists, for some reason, dress in white. I kind of understand it, since Brazilian medical professionals like dressing in white (cleanliness and shit), but fucking second-year dental students!? Why? For the same reason second-year law students wear suits to school.
Peer pressure. Both those professions will demand a certain attire, but not yet. But everyone wants to look professional, so they dress the way “adults” in their field dress. Fuck, is that ever lame.
What happened to college insanity? Granted, Brazilian “adult” society isn’t nearly as uptight as its American equivalent, so Brazilian college students don’t really need to go apeshit like their American counterparts, but there’s still no excuse for those pussies to dress like that We need a few more weird haircuts, crazy sunglasses and promiscuity in this university, and fast.
